BEIJING, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) announced Monday that it has approved its first loan in China for a natural gas project.
The 250-million-U.S. dollar loan will fund a project to connect 216,750 households in approximately 510 villages to the natural gas distribution network, according to an AIIB statement.
Upon completion and after subtracting the emissions from burning natural gas, the project is expected to reduce annual carbon dioxide emissions by 595,700 tonnes, particulate matter by 3,700 tonnes, sulfur dioxide by 1,488 tonnes and nitrogen oxide by 4,442 tonnes, according to the statement.
AIIB President Jin Liqun said China's commitment to reducing its reliance on coal will change lives and improve the environment.
""That is why we are investing in a project aligned with their ambitious plan,"" Jin added.
He reaffirmed AIIB's ""unwavering commitment"" to helping members meet their environmental and development goals, especially their commitments under the Paris Agreement.
""It is only fitting that our first investment in China will introduce sustainable infrastructure that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help invigorate one of the most important economic hubs in Asia,"" Jin said.
The investment in the project also marks AIIB's first corporate loan. The project, undertaken by the Beijing Gas Group Company, will entail construction of natural gas distribution networks in villages and low-pressure gas pipelines and household connections. It is scheduled for completion in 2021.

A policeman in China who shot dead a pregnant woman while drunk was executed on Tuesday, the Xinhua News Agency reported.
The victim and her husband were tending to their rice noodle restaurant last October when Hu Ping, the policeman, entered before opening fire when he was told there was no milk tea, domestic media previously reported.
Hu was sentenced to death in February and the Intermediate People's Court of Guigang in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region verified his death sentence before execution on Tuesday.
An appeal by Hu in April was rejected by the High People's Court of Guangxi.
I've been involved in finding legitimate ways to make money online working from home for many years. Sadly, there are so many of these opportunities that turn out to be money making scams.
There are of course many ways to actually make a good living online. Some of the legitimate ones I've found involve freelance writing, affiliate marketing using other people and companies products, selling Amazon products, CPA ("cost per action") marketing using paid CPC (cost per click) advertising, or selling arts & crafts on Etsy or Ebay to name a few.
The are also ways to make money as a social networker, blogging, blog commenting, or creating your own website and using Google Adsense to monetize the site. There are even easier ways such as performing mini-gigs on Fiverr or Amazon's M Turk which offers jobs for pay.
Each of these comes with their own advantages and their own distinct set of drawbacks. For the average person looking for a real work-at-home opportunity, affiliate marketing, freelance writing, or any type of online selling comes with a sizable learning curve.
Whereas Google Adsense usually only pays pennies per click on their ads you still have the expense of building your web site, domain name and monthly hosting fees not to mention the cost of promoting the site. Whether you're spending your time or your money, without steady traffic to your site there will be no income.
Fiverr is easy to use and provides an enormous amount of traffic but only pays $5 for the performance of any type of mini gig. After Fiverr takes their 20% cut ($1 per gig) you get $4!
Isn't There An easier Way?
If your goal is to either replace your income, earn a 2nd income or just some extra money, it should be something you can do without large start-up costs. That leaves out building a website, an online store or the risk involved with paid advertising and marketing costs.
If you had the money to do these things you wouldn't be looking to make additional income in the first place.
Maybe You Didn't Know?
Very few people realize that there are large Multi-National, billion dollar companies that need constant feedback and suggestions about their products. They use this information to improve their marketing and increase their sales and revenue.
Many of these compani.
